This site has been created by me, Tiiu Strutt.
I am first generation Canadian, of British and Estonian descent. I am a mother and live with my family in the small town of Mount Albert, Ontario, in the land of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat, in the land of the First Peoples of the Williams Treaty.
I am an educator and an artist. I currently work in the public school system with Primary and Junior students, and I am committed to engaging students with the natural world on a daily basis. I also have over two decades experience writing and performing songs.
I am deeply engaged with creating and sharing song to support the intersection of the voice, the heart and the land. When we sing, we connect deeply to ourselves. When we sing with others, we create a sense of belonging to our community. When we sing about the natural world, in the natural world, we can foster a sense of wonder, curiosity and magic. I have created this space to share my exploration, with the hopes of building community and sharing resources that may help you find these riches in your life, too.
I am committed to developing my knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of the Indigenous Peoples of this land, and of marginalized peoples I share this land with. I am committed to learning about racism and anti-racism. I believe all humans should have access and opportunity to develop a meaningful relationship with the land, and I am committed to learning and advocating to make that change happen in my home, community and my work.
